Full text of the story
The first of Kamsa's messengers: Putana, who comes to Gokula in the shape of a beautiful woman with poison on her breast, and asks to feed the baby.
Krishna takes both the poison and her life — and gives her the place of a mother, because she came to Him in the form of one. This is the clearest example in the whole series of what the scriptures mean when they say the demons of Vrindavan were delivered, not destroyed.
