How Krishna Lifted Govardhan Hill

This is Vrindavan. A green meadow, a little river, cows. “Moo-oo!” say the cows. Krishna lives here. He is a little cowherd boy.

Today is a festival! The mothers have baked a whole mountain of flat breads and sweet rice. Mmm, how good it smells!

Then the clouds came. Big, big clouds. It grew dark.

Drip. Drip-drip. Drip-drip-drip! Down came the rain. The cows got wet. The calves pressed close to their mothers.

“Krishna! Krishna!” everyone calls. “We are cold and wet!”

And Krishna lifted the hill. With one hand! A big, big hill — like an umbrella.

Everyone hid under the hill. Mother Yashoda too. And the cows. And the calves. Under the hill it is dry and warm.

And then the rain stopped. Out came the sun! And a rainbow.

Everyone hugs Krishna: “Thank you, Krishna!” And flowers fall from the sky.

Now it is your turn. Put down a pillow — that is the hill. Stand the cows underneath. Who will hide under the hill? Hold it up, Krishna!
